Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: if one of your apps freezes, crashes, otherwise doesn’t work as intended you can try fixing it by clearing the app’s cache or data.

WARNING! By clearing an app’s data, all of your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including save files, user profiles, custom settings etc. To avoid losing personal data, clear the app cache ONLY.

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Access “Apps
  3. Select the desired app and tap “Storage
  4. Tap “Clear cache” > “OK
  5. If clearing the app cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” (check the Warning above)

Clear the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: if your phone crashes, freezes, or doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering a factory reset, alternatively you can try fixing the issues by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can have results similar to a factory reset but won’t delete your personal data.

  1. Turn the phone Off
  2. Press and hold “Power” “Volume Down” and the “Home” / “Bixby” buttons at the same time
  3. Wait for the Android screen and then release the keys
  4. In Recovery, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight “Wipe cache partition
  5. Press “Power’ to select the highlighted option
  6. Highlight “Yes” and press “Power” to confirm
  7. Once done, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power” to confirm

NOTE: if clearing the cache partition didn’t solve the issues, check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone instead.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: if one of your third-party apps causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to remove the app while in Safe Mode where all third-party apps are disabled by default.

  1. Make sure the phone is powered off then press and hold “Power
  2. At the Samsung logo, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
  3. After the phone reboots, release the keys. You should see a “Safe Mode” watermark in the lower area of the home screen
  4. To remove an app, open “Settings” and then go to “Apps
  5. Select the desired app and tap “Uninstall” twice
  6. Once done, you can exit Safe Mode by rebooting the phone normally
