Okay, I'm looking at buying a new phone next month.
I've narrowed it down to the LG VX6000.

The main reason being I wanted to make my own mp3-quality ringtones and put them on the phone (via BitPim)

When I visited RadioShack, they told me about the Samsung A670.
It has tri-mode where as the VX6000 only has Dual-Band... which i suppose means clearer calls...

But... the main deciding factor for me is whether or not i can make my own mp3-quality ringtones...

So, can the A670 do that? I cant find anything about it... and i've been searching google and these forums.

first off, i would go back to radio shack and slap that salesman. the a670 is only a dual band phone!!!

    second...i don't think the a670 can play mp3s.

I have an a670 Samsung model. You can put MP3's on the phone for ringtones, alerts, etc.

First, you need a program to convert your MP3 into WAV file format. There's too many programs to list to do this, but I just use Winamp for this.

Then you need to cut the file down to 30 seconds using a WAV editor program. I just use the sound recorder thing that comes with windows to trim down the pieces i dont want of the sound (i.e. making a clip of the chorus section or whatever).

After your file is in WAV format at 30 seconds or less, then you need to convert the format using this program:

    http://www.cdmatech.com/products/purevoice_download.jsp

What this does is convert the file into an voice format (and lower quality) that is recognized by your a670 phone.

At this point you need to upload it into your phone using a data cable and bitpim or some equivalent program.

You can also send it in a message to your phone with verizons picture message website:

Also, one more thing.... don't use a song that has too much bass in it. This will cause the file to have a very distorted sound since the speaker in the phone wasn't really designed for playing music files really.

    Hopefully this helps you out.
