I am new to these boards, but I just got a new Samsung e315 today. I upgraded(?) from my older, backup phone, the R225m. Before going to my backup, I had a Motorola v300. That was a sweet phone, but I thought the software was bad and buggy. I though the e315 would be a newer, step up to the v300. Was I wrong?

Here are some complaints I have so far about the e315. Perhaps some of you can help me with these issues to correct them...

    -------------- - -

    1. When I receive a text message, the status LED flashes blue by default. I cannot seem to change the color for this. I currently have the status LED turned OFF, so really, I shouldn't see anything flash...but why blue? Why can't I have it off normally, but have it another color for messages? Stupid.

    2. Sporatic flashing of the status indicator when a text message is received. One would think that when a LED is supposed to "indicate" something, it would steadily flash at an even rate, like an answering machine. Not the case here. My status LED flashes randomly at varied speeds, almost flickering at times.

    3. Lack of independent volumes for keypad and menu tones. Right now, I had keypad tones turned OFF. However, I like when the keypad makes sound when I type a message. However, I DO NOT like a sound when I scroll through the menus. I can't have one without the other it seems. So I am stuck with a silent phone all the time.

    4. Horrible ring tones. T-Mobile definitely put the pinch on the consumer with this phone, by forcing the user to download new/better ringtones from their T-Zones service. They kept the number of ringtones low for this very reason, IMO.

    5. Can I change the background to something other than the 4 preset wallpapers for the external display? I don't think so. Help me if I'm wrong here.

    6. The shutter sound on the camera. Turn that crap off. But can I?

    7. What I see on the screen is NOT what I get when I use the camera. Tell me. If a phone has a screen shape of an upright rectangle, how is 640x480 a good resolution to use? Maybe it should be 480x640? Now doesn't that make more sense? And maybe if the resolution is 480x640, I wouldn't have to worry about cropped edges and viewing problems in an upright screen.

    8. Distorted sound quality on calls. Is it just be on this? Maybe my phone is bad, but it seems like the sound quality is raspy or distorted despite the volume being all the way down.

    9. Minor complaint, but what's with the white bar on the top of the external display? Why couldn't Samsung overlay the signal strength meter and the battery display over the wallpaper just like the date and time? Why the ugly, white, out-of-place strip?

    -------------- - -

Well, there you have it. I'm thinking about returning this phone. Perhaps there is a firmware update out there that can correct all this nonsense? If not, this phone is not even up to snuff to the V300. Sure the e315 can record movies...if you call 2 frames per second for 15 seconds a movie.

    Any help guys? Thanks...

i gave up my Motorola V66 for the Samsung e315 and most of what you say is true. Although you can change the color of the Service light. Settings, Display Settings, Service light....Mine does blink constantly, so virtually it is useless. I just turned it off. Cannot change the background of the external display other than the color. My complaint is that you can not download games with this phone in spite of all the hype that you can. I haven't tried to download from T-Mobile web site because I don't like the games they offer but I could not download anything from the Samsung, or any third party site... I don't like that I cant customize the menu like I did on my Motorola. I almost went with the V300 but stayed away from it because of the size and the configuration of the keypad.. Sorry I didn't go with it. Although I have great phone quality. Never drops calls and is always clear. But I live in NYC where there are plenty of towers. No one has trouble with any phones here....Good luck

The shutter... By federal law, all phones that are camera enabled, MUST make a noise, telling people that a picture has been taken, just fyi.

not all. My v3 allows you to set the shutter tone to none. Great feature.
