First of all, let me admit that I am a newbie to the entire cell phone world. I do, however, want to learn all I can about my new gadget. The first thing I did was to go out and search ebay for a data cable for my new phone. Alas, the data cables for my model cost over $40 with shipping and handling. That option was out. However, knowing that the charger for the x427 works with my phone, I decided to take the chance that the data cable would as well. And at the low price of $2.50, I couldn't loose (considering the fact that a friend of mine does own the x427 and wants the cable as well). Well the data cable finally arrived and I was sorely disapointed.
My question to this forum is twofold. Does anyone have a samsung sgh-x497 and data cable who would be willing to help me discover the wiring for the cable, or(if not) does anyone know where I can get a new cable for my phone for under $15?

Thanks, I'd be interested to find out if the cables are actually different. Also, I downloaded my software from samsung, did your cable come with a CD. I wonder if that is my problem and not the cable.

If it is a serial cable, then you don't need a driver. A driver is only needed for usb cable which is an usb-to-serial adaptor driver. If the cable is correct, just download the software from Samsung, connect the cable to COM1 and it should work. Link to Samsung's PIMS software as follows:

Yeah. Turns out I bought the wrong cable. I already downloaded the software. I was wondering if anyone can help me find the difference in the wiring of the cable for the x427 and for the x497. I plan to attempt to rewire the cable to get it to work with my phone. Can anyone out there help me with this?

If your cable is serial, then it is not just simply rewiring the wires. For X427, it is PCB093LBE but for X497, it is PCB133LBE. The circuitry used in both cables are very different.

looks like I got hosed just like you

I have the same scenereo, I got a serial cable off ebay that was supposed to work with my x495.

    I received a PCB093LBE but I really needed PCB133LBE.

Wow, this simple connection is going to end up costing a fortune.

I guess it's mainly because the X495 is so new, either that or it's a super expensive chip in the cable?

Seems there are virtually no usb's out there anywhere either, and I searched for hours.

Thanks for this post though, it answers my remaining questions.

I have just gone through this with my Cingular x497. It is a new phone, hence some of the problems. Also, the folks selling these serial cables on ebay don't seem to know that the cables and the software for Samsung are model or series specific. I bought one which was advertised as for the x497. After speaking with the good folks at Samsung, I learned that botht he cable and the software were incorrect.
The ebay vendor has offered a refund, but I'd rather have the correct items.
Another suggestion, buy Samsung accessories whatever you are going to connect to your phone. I connected a generic hands free set, and it disconnectd every call!
Susteen makes a great app called DataPilot, (http://www.datapilot.com/), but they don't support the 495/497 yet, although their website says it's coming soon.
    Good luck.
