OK, here's the situation. In the process of trying to get into this phone (which I finally figured out) to manipulate images & ringtones, at some point along the way I was playing with the hidden "TestMode" feature (47*68#13580) and inadvertently entered #29 (Rebuild EEPROM) and thats exactly what it did! Take my word for this, DON'T DO IT!!! So now my phone was essentially dead. Hmmmm, what to do now? Luckily for me, I live in a small town, and the local Telus dealer is a kind of laid back guy. I explained to him what had happened, and asked him if he could reprogram my phone, as it appeared to be void of all NAM programming, and I didn't even know my SPC (at that point). Well, he dialed the setup number, at first it wouldn't work, but the next thing you know, it said it completed successfully. This was not the case though, as the phone still didn't work properly. We decided to do it manually. He fired up his browser, and inputted my ESN into the company screen, and it spit out my SPC. Unfortunatley, when he tried to access the setup menu, the SPC didn't work! Damn! He said I had really killed my phone and there was nothing else he could do for me. While I was standing there, gnashing my teeth (at myself) I started punching in number combinations at the lock code screen, and wouldn't you know it, it was all 2's - "We're In" I said triumphantly. So now we put in the rest of the info for NAM1, and voila! the phone works again.

The only problem is that the info screen shows the PRL as "None" and the OTA (*22803) won't let me update it, it says my phone is not eligible for the OTA PRL update. Although the phone works, it seems to drop to analog too much, which is killing my battery. I have a sneaky suspicion that it is due to the fact that my SPC is all 2's and not the number their system says it should be. Anyone here have any idea how I can change the SPC back to what it should be without visiting an authorized service center? I suspect I'll have some 'splainin to do when the notice the SPC is wrong. I also would just like to fix it myself.......

Any and all info would be most appreciated!

OK, obviously no one here is willing or able to help, so I've taken matters into my own hands, y'know, if you want something done, you've got to do it yourself.......

After countless hours searching mainly eastern european hacking forums looking for some kind of software to change my MSL back to the Telus one, (and basically coming up dry, although I have learned an awful lot) I bit the bullet today and went to the Telus dealer and applied some social engineering. The dude I spoke to at first bought my story about how my pre-teen son got ahold of my phone last weekend, and one of his internet aware buddies knew how to get into the test menu and rebuilt the EEPROM. As well, as the fact that I had spent hours online afterwards trying in vain to fix it myself, thus that is why I knew as much about it as I did. Anyways, he disappeared into the back for about 10 mins with my phone, came back and said that all was well. I checked the info screen, and showed him that no, it wasn't OK because this number here should read 27241, not 00001! He disappeared again, this time for about 15 minutes, came back and said I needed to go to this other place on the other side of town and to explain that I was the guy from his store with the a650 problem. I thought I was going to another dealer, it turned out to be a sleazy looking hole-in-the-wall that did phone repairs. They also had an ad-hoc cell phone museum out front, now I know why they called 'em brick phones..... Anyways, the fellow with the eastern european accent took my phone, and after about 10 minutes, voila! he flashed it with the current PRL! No charge! I feel redeemed, halelujiah! I now vow to stay away from the "Test Menu"......... (or should I?? heh, heh)
