assuming its not a misprint in the manual (which it doesn't look to be, because the way the menus are organized on the phone creating your own ringtones is under the get new ringtones menu. So I would assume it should be fixed. How would someone go about undating software on a phone?

    It works!!!

I found the answer at http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...hreadid=772771 Now I can make my own default ringtones , but only default ringtones. I can't make them work as custom ringtones (i.e. assigned to a contact).

Well, I figured out the second part of my problem, getting the ringtone associated with a contact. Turns out you can't do it from the Contacts page as it won't show up there, but here's how you can do it:

    1. Go to GET IT NOW
    2. Get Tunes & Tones
    3. Select the ringtone that you've imported
    4. Press Options (right softkey)
    5. Select "Set As Ringer ID"
    6. Then select the contact to associate with this ringtone

    That's it.

getting memory card wont let you use your voice memos as ringtones.
i had the same hope and bought 512mb but when voice memos are moved to the card you can not get it back into the phone. if you plug in the memory card to your pc you can still see the file through explorer but thats about it

    Re: a970 and Ringtones

If your phone cannot use an MP3 for a ringtone, you might have to go back to Samsungs native format which M4a. You can use any sound or recording you want to, but you will have to use an upload site to get the ringer into the right phone directory to be used by the phone.
There a many audio conversion programs out there to do this.
