T809 idle screen

When the phone is closed and not being used there is just a black screen... I was wondering if there was a way to display the time on it. Every phone Ive had w/ an LCD screen on the outside has shown me the time and missed calls. I cant seem to figure out how to display the time w/out having to open it. I dont own a watch just because my cell is always handy... And Im far to lazy to have to slide the thing open (Yah Im from Los Angeles) I mean I wont die w/out it but its nice to have. any answers please

If you hold volume key on side of phone down it will give you the time, date, signal strength, and how many missed calls by an icon at the top.
