I recently purchased the Samsung a930. All of my prior phones have been from LG. There are a couple things I don't like about the Samsung, but maybe someone can help me figure out what is wrong:

    1. I recorded my own sound and I want to be able to set it as an alert sound. Howewer, when I try to do it, only options are for the preloaded sounds. How can I change this?

    2. With the LG, I was able to add a word to the "dictionary" when using their "T9" Text feature. Can I do the same when using the "Word" Text feature.

    3. Can I set my default text format to he "Word" feature?

If anyone could help me out with this, it would be great. Thanks

    Re: Samsung a930 help

If anyone was wondering, i got 2 of the 3 questions answered:

    Q. 1. I recorded my own sound and I want to be able to set it as an alert sound. Howewer, when I try to do it, only options are for the preloaded sounds. How can I change this?

    A. I downloaded and installed bitpim. Even though the a930 phone is not supported in bitpim, I the a950 works. If you haven't seen bitpim, search for it on google and check it out. You'll see what you can do with it.

    Q. 3. Can I set my default text format to he "Word" feature?

    A. Yes. Go into: message: settings: choose all msg or TXT msg: entry mode

I'm still hoping that my question 2 is possible:

    Q. 2. With the LG, I was able to add a word to the "dictionary" when using their "T9" Text feature. Can I do the same when using the "Word" Text feature.

Hope this helps anyone else with the same problems.

    Re: Samsung a930 help

i just checked out bitpim and looks really easy, but usb cables are only on ebay,
hwo bout if i just got a card reader for my pc would bitpim read a microSD?, or does the internal memory have to overwritten with bitpim?

cause the cables with cd drivers are really expensive, does it NEED a driver?

    Re: Samsung a930 help

I have the software and data cable that came with the phone, and it wont let you set it as a ringtone. The options are differant for pre recorded sounds and your recorded sounds... Delt with looking on here forever, and none of the options i have founds work right as of yet, and customer service cant help. I streatched the truth a little but basically, it works for the 950 but not the 930... Only thing i can figure is there is something in the software on the phone that prevents it based on the v cast packages being pushed so hard.

what carrier gives out data cables so people can mess around with thier phones instead of making there customers buy $5 ring tones that are 6 seconds long?
you must be mistaken no data cable comes with the a930

    Re: Samsung a930 help

I purchased the data cable and software for $20 (onsale from $30) from the Verizonwireless store.

I installed the drivers, then downlaoded bitpim. I select my phone as the a950 and this works for the a930.

I don't know what else could be wrong for some of you
