My 12 year old went swimming in a pool with his A650. He attempted several times to turn the thing on while still soaking wet. Now all we get is a few short beeps when it powers up. Dead screen (still has water in it after 3 days!) but the shut down tone seems to work just fine. I'm guessing it's DEAD FOR GOOD THIS TIME. Two weeks ago he was showing off his new ringtone to a bunch of friends while his hands were soaking wet. The water got into the phone and the screen was a bit erratic after that but at least the phone worked.

So since I'm guessing his phone is dead has anyone bought a used one on E-Bay with good results??

    Ok, check this thread out:

That can help you out! Be careful with eBay phones! Verify the ESN number BEFORE buying!

I would be careful with that guide. I have told people to put phones in the oven on warm (not 125), and that works pretty well also. I wouldn't put the battery in the oven, nor would I put the battery on the phone when you're swishing it around in more water. You can kill the battery this way as well. The reason that water causes damage to cell phones is that water is a conductor. It will connect a bunch of things on the circuit board that aren't meant to be connected together. Once the water is gone, the phone will work (most of the time...the speaker in the earpiece or something may have gotten extensive damage as well). However, you can get eventual corrosion damage and whatnot. If your phone stops working in the future, it's probably due to corrosion and much more difficult to repair.

Thanks all. Phone is totally dead, dead, dead. Purchased one on E-Bay (verified the ESN with Verizon prior to purchasing) and it's better than the dead one. Works great, looks like new and has a brand new battery on it. The original battery on the phone was losing it ability to hold a charge so we got a brand new battery to boot.
