    Hi!

I just got a Samsung A920, yesterday in fact. My Phone Company is Bell Mobility (well Bell Mobilité in Quebec). I have two questions mainly.

I've read couple of threads about custom MP3 ringtones for the A920 and I saw that the only to put them on the onboard memory (can't be recognize on the SD card) is to upload them via Internet. Is that right? Since I have very very limited access to the Internet, it will actually cost me something to upload them, right?

Just correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, about the custom wallpapers. The resolution of the A920 is 176*220 pixels. I've resized all my .jpeg to 176*220, transfered them on the SD Card, then tried to set them as wallpapers and I still get the two white stripes above and below the pic (it looks like a WideScreen Movie with the black stripes, except they're white this time). Is there a way to set them as wallpaper without these stripes?

    Thank you guys!

PS: Is using the voice recognition free? That may sounds dumb but I just want to be sure I can use it free.

Well, do you have a USB adapter for your SD card? If not, you can buy it for like $20 bucks.

I just need help for the wallpaper thing. Come on guys.

think this might help you... go to pictures... click option #7...go to #3(view mode) and then select portrait... default setting is landscape which gives you the white stripes.
hope it works... let me know
    new to this site... later

Sprint Users - Sprint PCS Forum, Downloads and Tools <-- It is a free membership that send you pics resized and background compatable. also works with ringtones, but the compatability is obscure.
click on "focus" on the top tabs

I have been having problems with Bell's Music Store, which runs the music player on the phone. When Music store was upgraded to version 2.1.7, it stopped working. After three months now, I still get the message from bell that they have a "master Work Ticket" on the problem, and are working with samsung to get the program to work. the earlier 1.*.* versions were working, but with the new update available, it has disabled the older versions, and forces you to download the inoperable version. If you have a Samsung a-920, and have this problem, you need to call Bell Technical Assistance and let them know.

    Some of the symptoms are:

-Music store locks up on loading, displaying the Java screen on large display, and "music store loading" on small external screen.
    -Phone freezes
    -Phone reboots.

Every time I call, they say I am not the only one with the problem, and they will call me when there is a fix. .... waiting....

    Re: Samsung A920 Problems!

shadyunltd and timberpup70, I had the same problem as you two... the Java screen would appear and then after a few seconds it would lock up. The phone would eventually reboot after a minute or two. No matter what I tried the Music Store application wouldn't start.

So I finally got fed up and called Bell and a was on the phone with them for about a hour, and we were finally able to get the stupid thing to work again (but it takes a little bit of work).

They told me I had to remove the old application with the link listed below (they said I'm able to post it on the web to help others).

Read through all of the following steps to make sure you get the correct order.

    1. Go to your Bell web browser (it will say "connecting"). Make sure you have unlimited internet access or you will be charged 5 cents a KB.

    2. once it's loaded, go to the menu option and pick "Go to ULR..."

    3. Enter this web address below (pay very close attention to the letters that are capitalized, because the link is cap sensitive).

    http : // j2medev .groovemobile .net / java / jars / Fadi / Test /BootStrap /JukeBox .jad

    4. after you enter the above link (with the spaces removed) into the phone's web browser screen, it will then go to a download screen. Press "ok" to dl the application. (this application/link will remove the last version of Music Store from the phone. Don't worry though, the Bell guy said it will revert back to the original back up file that came with the phone)

    5. once done, the phone will ask if you want to launch the program, say "yes" (it might take a minute before you see this)

    6. the Java screen will then reappear as before, and if the screen locks up once again after 5 seconds (the bar at the bottom stops moving), remove the battery from the phone. (the Bell CSR said that this was normal)

    7. reinstall the battery.

    8. turn on the phone again and once it's ready, go back to the "music" option in you phone's main menu.

    9. start the Music Player again.... this time it should automatically go to the net instead of freezing.... it will then go to a download screen for version 2.1.7 (dl the that file, and let it load).

(yes, that's the same version # you had before..... the only difference is you no longer have the original version installed, so it doesn't have to overwrite it... that's where the problem could be as per the Bell rep)

    10. start the player after it says "OK". If it freezes again, wait a little bit (30-60 seconds). The player should load up fine and the phone should work again as expected.

If after you dl the new version (after step #3), if it doesn't unfreeze after 30-60 seconds of starting the player, remember to take the battery off once more and and then put it back on. Then turn on the phone again and proceed to start the Music Player in the phone's menu.

it should be fine from this point on.

The Bell rep said that the 920 doesn't always reboot by itself after the music store update is installed (they have documentation about this problem, but it took them a while to find it listed in their help book). That's why you might have to pull the battery off before you can continue (after you DL the new version again).

Any who, try the above steps and see it it works for you. It worked for me and I'm now happy. I can now play my music MP3's again via the built in Music Player.

    Re: Samsung A920 Problems!

Thank you for that finely detailed reinstallation procedure, as it must have taken some time to work on. It is appreciated, however, it did not work for me for some reason. As it stands, i still get the freeze, and reboot, and even if I take the battery out at the times described, it did not work for my phone.

I have decided to give up on the groovemobile for now. Anyways, thier songs cost too much, and with a converter, you can get decent songs for a buck something from puretracks or Napster.

In search for wisdom on the problem, I went into the bell store on harvest hills boulevard in calgary, and spoke to a salesperson there. She was very accomodating, and listened carefully - something I don't think I got from the techs. It seemed so simple that I felt quite stupid afterward.

Instead of using the Music store, select media player from the main menu. Select memory card.

It takes a couple of seconds to show up, but you don't have to deal with the marketing that used to pop up on the music player.

It will still play the music just like the jukebox, has shuffle and list features just like the jukebox, and doesnt seem to get the hangups and freezes that the music store seemed to get. So, for now, i'll wait until I get my discount built up and select a new phone at the end of the contract, as the features i use are still working satisfactorily. Maybe a nice blueberry pearl is in the future for february.

Thanks for your suggestions, and i do hope they help others. My phone for now, is a lost cause.
