Front display question

I just recently got a SGH A707, and I noticed that the front display won't stay lit up. All I want to do is look down to see what time it is, or if I missed a call without flipping open the phone. Is there a way to change that setting? I've looked around the Settings and I can't find anything that does the trick.

Any help is appreciated.

mmm i know what u mean but i dont think u can light the front without fliping the phone open but mabe there is a button on the side u press and it will light up?
