I read about the uploader post, so I'm sorry if is a duplicate post, but is there a way to get MP3 ringtones onto my phone? I'm using audiko right now to download/format the songs, but I'm having trouble with my phone actually reading them. Would it be easiest to use the uploader or to format them to whatever the correct format is?

    Thanks

Re: Samsung M630 (highnote) ringtone question

Just found out how to do ringtones for individuals and your default tone, but unfortunately doesn't work for messaging of any sort at this point....

    1. Connect to your computer via USB, and connect the phone. On the phone, you need to go to Tools>Mass Storage>Connect to PC

    2. Create a ringtone using a site such as Myxer or Ventones and save the ringtone to your computer. Once on your computer, convert to a .3g2 format. I'm using a Mac, so it automatically did it when I changed the suffix, and don't know how that works for Windows users as far as needing a third-party software is concerned.

    3. Once in .3g2 format, take it and put it on your phone under the DCIM folder and the subfolder with 100 in its name. Disconnect the phone from your computer.

    4. Go to settings>sounds>ringer type>incoming calls>my videos. You'll see a little box with a red X as the preview, but the audio works all the same. Set it as your ringtone, and you're done.

Like I said, this can work as the default ringer or as individual people, but not under messaging.... Still trying to figure that one out.

Re: Samsung M630 (highnote) ringtone question

Sorry, but I have tried the above instructions all afternoon on my Highnote, and I'm still can't get it to take.

I converted the ringtone I want to a .3g2 format, I copied it to the phone under the DCIM 100 folder (as well as every other folder on the memory card), I disconnected the phone from the computer, and tried to set the ringtone. I did exactly as you described....went to "settings", "sounds", "ringer type" and "incoming calls". From the dropdown menu, I chose "my videos" (option #4) and "in memory card". Sure enough, my ringtone was in a window with an "X", and I could even play it on the phone.

The problem was, when I clicked the "assign" option, I got a prompt saying "saving to phone....please wait", so I did. After that, the phone reverted to the main menu. I went back in to sounds to check my new ringtone, and it was still set to the old ringer (one of the pre-programmed ringers on the phone). I even called the phone, and the old ringer triggered.

I followed the steps again and again, and it just wouldn't assign the new ringer, even though it said it was saving it to the phone. Finally, I threw my hands up and called Sprint tech support. They informed me that the .3g2 format wasn't supported as a ringer by the Highnote. They said I had to used the following extensions for ringers: .qcp, .midi, .aac and .aac+. I tried converting to all of those formats and copying them to every folder in the phone and on the memory cards, and none of them were recognized (of cours, I don't want a .midi file anyway).

So I'm stumped. I can't figure out why the .3g2 file, although I could play it on the phone, will not take as a ringtone. Is there a time limit on any ringtone you can assign? Will it not take because it doesn't contain video? I have no clue....all I know is that it has been a frustrating afternoon.

I'm not sure what might be going on then. When I went to save it to my phone, it did it just phone. For my ringtones, I used the standard less than 30 second length rule, and it worked fine for me. If it is over this time amount, I would suggest trying to cut it down in length.

Re: Samsung M630 (highnote) ringtone question

I have the same problem as DDinTV. I tried to convert a mpg file to 3g2 format (<512kb, <30sec) directly by some softwares, uploaded to DCIM 100 folder, and tried to change the tone ringer as the way listed above, but it never worked. when the call came in, it's just silence, nothing came up...

I also noticed that if we use camcorder to make a video and assign it to ringer, it wasn't a X in windows, and it could work. Is it the matter of the convert software we use? which software would work to convert mpg or mp3 file to 3g2 format??? Soooooooooooooo confused and frustrating......!!!! Somebody please help!!!!

Interesting, I never had this problem. It may be with the converter you're using. As I said, I am doing this on my Mac and have not had a single problem with the aforementioned steps to get it on the phone.

Can't do it immediately, but I'll go through and see if I can't try to replicate the problem you're having.

Re: Samsung M630 (highnote) ringtone question

Windows users: So if you have the song in mp3 format and cut down to like 30 seconds. You will need to download a program called super don't worry this is freeware. It will switch your Mp3 into a video file which is .3g2 explained on instructables or google search it. After you have converted the file to .3G2 The name should be example: i_get_it.mp3 transfer to phone. go to settings/sounds/ringer type/incoming calls/my videos. find file (in phone/in memory card). The file will have a red X in the middle. hit the top left key assign. Enjoy!

Re: Samsung M630 (highnote) ringtone question

In short, connect the phone to the computer with the usb cord.
Next, you need to have the MP3 file ready. Settings that seemed to work well were 64 kbps mp3 encoding. I recommend only a 30 second file, so you may have to trim it up with Audacity or another audio editing program.
Finally export the file as an MP3.
Now, change the extension on the MP3 file to .3G2
Now just put it in the folder that was made by the phone (The subfolder starting with 100 under the DCIM folder)

I hope this helps a few people.

I've tried it exactly what you posted here, but it was still silence when the call came in... By the way, I changed the ringtone of a contact instead of incoming call, in the information of the contact, the ringtone's name was blank, and when I hit play, it was silence, too...

I have ring tones set to three or more of my contacts and they work just fine. Are you using a Micro SD card in your phone or straight on the phones memory? (I use a Micro SD card)
I had the exact same problem when i first tried assigned them to contacts i would play the ringtone and nothing. Changing the file name to this did the trick for me (File_name.mp3)This is in the name shown on your computer .3G2 this is the format. The super program will do this for you. Who is your service provider? i have Sprint. The ringtones that i have assigned to contacts are i_knew.m, peter_gr, silence_ that is exactly how they appear on my phone.
If this doesn't work feel free to contact me. or post the steps you have tried and i will see if i can help.

I've been thinking about making a video for people having problems... If people keep having problems, then I likely make a video, especially if there is enough demand for it.

I have had this same problem. I have cut the time down to 30 sec, and converted to a 3g2 and i will assign the ringer, but as soon as someone calls it reverts back to my old ringer. I've tried everything I know to try with the same results...any advice????
