Samsung Behold Corded Earphone/Adapter Issue

I can't use the type earphones that came with my Behold; they won't stay in, and hurt my ears. I have a pair with much smaller "buds" covered in silicone that are much more comfortable, but they require an adapter to use with the Behold's USB port.

I used those with the adapter for a few days just fine, but now, it sounds like the right side has much less volume than the left, and that wasn't the case earlier. I've checked all the volume controls on my cords, and made sure everything I know about is in the correct position. Could this have something to do with the signal having to go thru more connections to get to the earpieces? The earphones aren't even a year old yet. I really want to be able to enjoy music with my new phone!
