Samsung Europa (i550) battery

Have this Samsung android listed with Virgin Mobile and the battery won't last, even with a new one. I disabled all the functions that I can think of, apparently, I can switch from G3 to G2, would this help battery life? Anything I can do?

Is it constantly searching for a signal?

I live in a city where there's always a signal but are u saying maybe there's something wrong with the phone? How can I tell if it's "constantly searching for a signal"? Sorry for my ignorance.

DFLD, thanks for the reply but really don't understand what you're trying to say, sorry. I think you mean not to charge the battery until really necessary or it will shorten the life of the battery?
