I have a Samsung U310 Knack which I purchased brand new 4 months ago. Several weeks ago, it went completely dead. Opening the phone would not bring it to life nor did pressing the “OK” button or any of the other keys. Thinking the battery was dead, I connected it to the charger. After about 5 minutes of charging, I got a message and audio alert saying that charging was complete. Since this was much shorter than a normal 4 hour charging, I assumed that the problem was not due to a battery which needed charging.

The problem remained however so thinking that the problem may be a defective battery, I purchased a brand new Samsung battery and charged it in the phone. The problem remained however, even with a brand new, fully charged battery.

I contacted my cell phone provider which is where I purchased the phone. Since it is still under warranty, they sent me a loaner Knack phone and had me return my dead phone for service. After having the phone for about two weeks (with my brand new battery in it), they called me back and said that their technicians had done problem determination, leaving the phone working on their bench for over a week and it had performed perfectly. They also told me that they changed some settings on it for me to make it easier to turn on with the “OK” button. They said that they couldn’t find any problems with the phone and returned it to me.

As soon as I took the phone out of the box, it was completely dead again when I tried to I turn it on. Once again, flipping the phone open would not bring it to life nor would pressing the “OK” button. I spent close to an hour on it, trying every key combination I could think of, including holding buttons (including the “OK” button) down without any success.

I even tried swapping in the battery from the loaner phone which I KNEW FOR SURE was a good battery since it was powering my loaner phone fine. Placing it in my own phone made no difference however; the phone remained and continues to remain dead. The back lights on it do work if I have the phone connected to the charger however but they no longer work once it is disconnected from the charger.

I am completely stumped at this point. I am concerned that if I return it to my provider again, they will just find no problem with it once more. Does anyone have any idea what might be going on here? Thanks.

Re: Samsung Knack U310 Keeps Going Dead

    Update:

In case anyone happens to be interested in this, I contacted Samsung technical support and was able to resolve the problem. By checking the phone serial number, it turned out that even though I had ordered a Samsung Knack and all of my purchase documentation showed that I had received a Knack, I had actually been sent a different Samsung phone. The model I had received looked virtually identical to the Knack but which had different features and which functioned differently.

Since Samsung has no external labeling showing the phone model, I had no way of knowing that I had a different phone than the Knack. I had been using a Knack user manual on a different phone and once I found the correct user manual for my phone, I was able to get it working properly.
