I just recently got this phone, and i'm completely satisfied with it except for the fact that i don't know how to put an mp3 file as a ringtone. Is there a specific extension the file has to have or is there some hidden way to do it? Help please and thanks

    Re: Sanyo Incognito

    I agree on the ringtones.
Unfortunately, I could not find a way to use an mp3 file as a ring tone.
Fortunately, you can assign a video as a ring tone.

What you want to do is start Windows Movie Maker and put your favorite mp3 file in the audio section. Then, crop the file down to where you want it, and make sure the length is less than 30 seconds.

Then add your favorite picture to the video section. (If you don't add a picture, then when you "publish" from Windows Movie Maker, it will be a WMA file... but you need a WMV file. Publish the file so that you now have a WMV file that is less than 30 seconds.

Now, download a freeware app that can convert wmv to 3g2 (this is the format the Incognito uses. I used the app: "Cucusoft YouTube Mate".
The first time I converted a WMV file to 3G2, it didn't work as a ring tone (but I could view the video on the phone).
So, I then made sure that when I converted WMV to 3G2, I used the same video format that the phone uses, which is:
    Video Encoder: mpeg4
    Video Bitrate: 108
    Frame Rate: 10
    Video Size: 176x144

After you convert your video, make sure that the size of the 3G2 file is less than 500K. (If it's larger than 500K, it might not work as a ringtone).

After you have a 3G2 file that's less than 30 seconds, and less than 500K, you can now copy the file to your SD card.
It should be a folder like:
    D:\DCIM\100SANYO

Then, open your phone, hit the "camera" button, go to your files, select your newly uploadded video, click options, then click "assign" - and you can assign your video as a ringtone.

If you can't assign the video as a ring tone, then double check the settings as listed above, and double-check the file size, and video length.

    Good luck!

Thank you, and I also found out why you can't use mp3's as a ringtone. Sprint actually blocks using them as ringtones.

Re: Sanyo Incognito mp3 as ringtone

Hey TGriffth42 - Thanks for the tip
I didn't use the CookooSoftware though cause it wanted money for the full download. What I did use though is the one I already have which is DVDVideoSoft Free Studio. It's completely free and has a lot of cool stuff - you can convert a lot of stuff. Anyway, I made the *.wmv then converted it to *.mp4 which will play on the Incognito. I used the same display size: 176x144, the bitrate was set at 146 and the framerate at 12. It works cool plus I get my own logo on the video. It's basically "iPod" settings.

I really don't like this phone though. But - oh well (
    Anyway, thank you so much!!!

---------- Post added at 08:12 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:53 AM ----------

Hey I forgot something too. The available video formats that the Incognito can play are: 3GP / 3GPP, H.264 / AVC, MPEG-4, RealVideo as well as 3G2. (MPEG-4 is just MP4) and MP3 is the audio portion of MP4 - sort of the same thing as WMA is to WMV - incase anyone is confused on that.
The phone itself seems to convert the *mp4 into a *.3G2 and it sort of converts hides it once you assign it
Also Hawtie - I think to make sure that you either put your file in the \DCIM\100SANYO folder on the phone or else put it in the VIDEO folder and then copy it to the phone memory "PICTURES & VIDEOS" because I couldnt directly assign it to a ringtone from the VIDEO folder. The DCIM\100SANYO folder has a hidden file like some sort of extension manager, and I think that's what the difference is.

I did this and it worked perfectly for me. Thing is ... IT HAS TO BE les than 500K in order to work. I had to make sure the song was 128kbts and i chopped everything down to 20 seconds.

    Thanks!

Re: Sanyo Incognito mp3 as ringtone

I found another method that works good also if anyone wants to try it. We don't need to make a video this way and it is free service - really cool. What to do is make your ringtone *mp3 on your computer. Then you go to a 3rd party uploader on the Internet and submit your mp3. Then they store the mp3 and give you the web link to your mp3. Then you access that weblink from your phone browser and you download your *mp3 to the Downloaded Ringtones on your phone !! It works really good. You get the option to have them send you the weblink via an SMS message or you can just write down the link when they give it to you on your computer. (that way you aren't giving out your phone #) - but they don't spam you either. It's just a free service made by people who support free Internet.
OK - Now - if you are using a 3rd party browser on your phone, such as Mini-Opera, I suggest that you DON'T use it to download the ringtone. Use the default browser. This is because the default browser knows exactly where in the phone to store the ringtone. But with Mini-Opera, you need to navigate all the directories on the phone to find the correct one, and even once you find it, the ringtone will download in the WRONG format and will not show up in the downloaded ringtones folder. The phone I think reformats the ringtone to some other type of file - which looks like a folder. In any case it wont work unless you use the defauld browser.
Sorry I make all this sound complicated. It's not. Just follow thes steps. Its simple.
    1) Make your mp3 ringtone on your compute.
    2) Upload it to the server, from your computer.
    3) write down the link they give you, or give them your SMS address
([email protected]) where xxxxxxxxxx is your phone #
    4) Go to the weblink they give you and download your ringtone. Thats it !!

The uploader I use is :

    rumkin(dot)com/tools/sprint/

myxer.com works amazingly well. It is also much easier than all of the solutions posted here. You just have to browse the site from your phone, if you try to send tones to your phone via PC it will tell you boost is unsupported. You can even easily make your own ringtones with this site. Very easy to use, and most tones are free. If you cant find the tone you want for free, make it yourself! Hope this helps. If anyone has any good app lists for the incognito please share them with me!
