It is probably caused by the Note 7 fiasco. Perhaps Samsung wants to have more time to spend polishing its future devices; perhaps it simply cannot afford more than one flagship per year now. It is hard to say what does this mean for the Note series, but, well, we have already heard rumours about the serie being closed. Maybe it is for the better - I do not know about you, but to me, "Note" sounds like "boom!" now.
