well..
say you have a phone on cingular, but you want to use it on t-mobile..
if you get it unlocked you can do that. --basically, its making it possible for the phone to be used on any carrier that supports the phone.Pablo Escobar Santana...

so...
I shouldn't have to unlock my phone to
- send myself ringtones to dl/make use of (ie email w/attach, yousendit.com)
- use a usb/bluetooth and appropriate software to transfer ringtones/game
- backup and even delete files to make more room with limited memory avail
[my phone is a motorola v551]
