I just bought this cable for my Z500A
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1
I installed the drivers + the Sony Ericsson File Manager. When I connect the phone to the cable, and open up the File Manager, it does not show my phone being listed as a connection. I also tried Floats Mobile Agent, and when I select 'connect' it tries for a minute and then says 'Connection Failed'.
I checked, and my DCU-11 cable is listed as COM1, I tried several other ports, with the same problem.
I also tried on another computer, and had the same problem.

It doesn't sound right for the cable to be listed as COM1. What is the description in Device Manager for COM1? If the driver is installed properly, you should see a line under Ports (COM & LPT) like ... usb-to-serial... (COMx) x is normally 3 or larger. If you see any line that has "!" or "?" that means the driver is not installed properly.

It says something like 'DCU-11 USB', but like I said, I tried several other ports with no success. There are no ? or !.

Am I right that you found a line like 'DCU-11 USB (COM1)' under Ports (COM & LPT) in Device Manager? Are your using a Laptop that has no serial port since COM1 should usually be assigned to Communication Ports? If COM1 is now DCU-11, you should use COM1 to setup File Manager and FMA. If nothing works, you should contact the cable supplier and ask them for help.

I'm trying to talk to the people who supplied me the cable, but they aren't much help. It was COM1 after I tried everything, including switching ports. I think the default was COM3, but like I said before, it doesn't seem to matter which port it is on.

If your computer has serial port and it should use COM1, then there may be a conflict between your DCU-11 cable and the communication port if they both assigned to COM1. My friend also has the DCU-11 cable but it uses the Prolific driver and it has no problem with her Z500A. FYI, It uses COM3 for the usb cable.

They weren't ever both COM1. Forget I mentioned anything about the COM ports, as they don't matter what they are set to.
Where can I find this 'Prolific' driver?

I am not sure if Prolific driver will work for your cable, but anyway, go to Prolific web site www.prolific.com.tw, go to support - download and search for PL2303 and download the Drivers for WHQL (wd-pl-2303h_hx_x_v20026.zip )
The link for the driver as follows:

Is that one compatible with the Z500A?
The website says it is, but none of the 'knockoffs' mention it.

When you click on INFO of buddugan's post, it will open up the web page from SonyEriccson for the DSS-25 and it mentions that it is compatible with Z500A.
