Someone Please help.
I have tried every way i know to get this cable to work. I have pictures on the phone that i really want to put on my computer. I am adding my earlier post below to explain what i get.I need pretty detailed info please
Thanks.
Kari
I recently purchased a z500a cell phone.
I purchased a usb data cable (DCU-11)
I didn't get a cd with either, but i downloaded the "File manager" and the "Sync Station" from Sony Ericsson site. When i plug the phone into the usb port on my computer, it says "new hardware found"
Then i check in Device manager and it shows "Other devices" then "USB serial controller" and they have a yellow question mark, and a yellow Exclamation mark. I right click and go to properties, and try to re-install the driver, and point it to the driver that i downloaded and unzipped from sony ericsson site (DCU-11) It says the info is not there.
Could it be that i need a driver for the usb serial controller? How do i do that and where would i get it?
I have the "my phones" icon on my desktop, but it says "not connected" Please help, i have worked on this for 2 days straight and have gone nowhere with it. I have called sony ericsson 4 times also.
I have Windows XP
If anyone can help, you can e-mail me at: [email protected]
Thanks Kari

Switch to a Bluetooth dongle
You phone has bluetooth. A window will open displaying various folders inside the phone including the "Photos" folder. Just click & drag where you want the pics on your computer.

In xp does it show sony ericsson in "all programs"? Also when the cable is connected to the pc and phone is there a phone icon in system tray? You may need to uninstall and re install cable make sure which com port xp is trying to connect with. Hope this helps

Cable problems
Thank you for the reply,
When i plug the cable into my computer (i don't have a cd for the cable)
it brings up the wizard , but then it says it can not find the software. I have gone exactly by the info that the sony ericsson site has. When i go to Device Manager, (i'll include a picture of that) So i wonder if i need to assign it to a port, which i'm not sure how to do.
Maybe when you see the picture, it will let you know what it is doing.
Thanks again Kari

To be able to get a connection between the Phone and the PC with the
DCU-11 cable, you must configure the Mobile Phone Monitor to listen
to the DCU-11 COM Port.
1. Go to the Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager
2. Open up the node Ports (COM & LPT), look which COM port the DCU-11
is connected to. Remember that COM port number.
3. In the Control Panel start the Phone Monitor Option. Select the COM
Ports tab.
4. In the COM Ports list, make sure that the DCU-11 COM port is enabl
Find the file you downloaded from S/E modem scripts it has all these directions and othersLast edited by bufordt; 09-23-2005 at 10:30 AM.

It seems like you don't have the driver for the cable. Have you contacted the seller of the cable and ask them for the correct driver for the cable? After you got the driver, go to Device Manager and right click on the USB-Serial Cont... and select update driver to update to the correct driver. FYI, many people find that it is easier to use Float's Mobile Agent which you can find in the following link:

1.) Uninstall all the file manager programs and synchronization programs that you got from SE
2.) Restart your computer
2.) Plug in your Cable to the USB port, and your phone into the other end
3.) It should find it and ask you to either let it install or have you do it, choose to let you find the driver
4.) Download this driver: Prolific 2303 Driver
5.) Run the exe file in that driver, which will install the USB to Serial connection
6.) Reboot machine
7.) XP should find the Z500A and ask you to install it, choose the files you downloaded from SE, the modem files... and it will install the Z500a
8.) Now check in Hardware settings to see if both the USB and the Z500a Modem are in there, if so
9.) Install the file manager program you downloaded from SE
10.) Reboot computer and open the file manager program, your phone should be in there, under "Z500A"
Which is the point I have gotten to, then when I click on a folder within the Z500a Folders, IE: Pictures folder... it gives me an error and XP loses the phone and I have to reboot.
If you have a different cable, it may work for you.. where did you get the cable from?
