sound file compatibility on a z500a

Hi,
pretty new to all this stuff, what a wealth of info here!!

I don't have the book with this newer phone and Im trying to figure out the different formats that are compatible with the SonyEricsson z500a. Looking for a Basic run down of what works with what (ie whats an AMR)?. could someone link ,if possible, an explanation/description of the different sound formats? I've downloaded a few .mid files those all have worked great so far.
