s710a, unlocking issue.. i have the code.

hi everyone. just took my s710a and moved from cingular to tmobile. after a week, cingular finally gave me my unlock code.. its 8 digits. i searched the forum, and people said to enter it do '<**<'

I do that then go to 'network' and enter it... but i get told it is wrong.

am i entering it from the wrong place??
