I just ordered the W300i. Please tell me if I am correct: I can buy a micro memory stick for my phone and connect my phone to my computer and download songs to my phone (onto the micro stick)? I don't have to have a card reader to download songs to the micro stick right?
Also, just curious if anyone has experienced the freezing up problem that was reported in the cnet review? They said the phone froze up on them on occasion during normal operation.
One more thing, since I am just upgrading my phone, can I use the SIM card I have in my current phone in my new phone or do I have to use the SIM card they are sending?
Thanks!

Re: Downloading songs to W300i...am I correct?
Actually, the W300i uses the newer technology of memory card called the Memory Stick Micro M2. It replaces the outdated Memory Stick Pro Duo format. Here's a simple rundown. Standard format that you see for most devices are either in the form of SD or MMC. Sony Ericsson likes to use proprietary accessories to go along with their devices. Memory cards are no exceptions, so the SD and MMC cards will not work on your W300i. SE's Memory Stick Duo cards have only a capacity of 128MB max. The newer technology Memory Stick Pro Duo cards replaced the the regular Duo cards and can hold more memory to a current max of 4GB while still retaining the same shape of the Duos. The latest technology is the Memory Stick Micro M2, which is what the new SE phones (yours included) use with the exception of the W810i and the W850i. The M2 card is more smaller, and its current max capacity is 2GB.
You can use a card reader if you want to, but it is the fastest way to transfer files from your PC to your phone. However, if you don't want to do that, just hook up the phone witrh the card already in the expansion slot to the PC via the data cable supplied. Just download and install the software first so that your PC will recognize it.
For the freezing problem, I've never had any problem with mine when I had it, nor did any of my friends say otherwise. CNET.com is a great site for references and user reviews if you're researching for your next or current phone. But more than likely the phone that they were testing was either the first batch of W300i's with the Cingular firmware, or a prototype. Phones with the initial firmware when released tend to have "bugs". I don't think you should worry about it because the W300i has been out for a while, and the kinks should be worked out. But if you feel that there may be something wrong with the phone when you use it, you can return it within the first 30 days upon receiving it. I'd recommend to test it out extensively within that time period. If you feel unsure about something, you can call Cingular or Sony Ericsson support, or just post any questions here at CPF.
Since you're upgrading through Cingular, you don't have to worry about unlocking the phone because your account and SIM card is on the same provider. Unlocking simply means that you will be lifting the restrictions that was placed on the phone to be used on a certain service provider. Since cell phone manufacturers and service providers make "contracts" to carry a certain phone, a carrier lock is used for the phone to be exclusive to the provider. By unlocking the phone, you can use it on any other GSM network available outside of Cingular, eg T-Mobile, SunCom, Rogers, Fido, etc. Since you already have an account with Cingular for some time now, you can just request the unlock codes from them by either calling them up or going to a corporate store. This will help you if ever the event you wish not to use Cingular's service anymore, and you want to keep your current phone. Just remember, you cannot use the W300i on providers like Verizon or Sprint. Verizon and Sprint use a different digital wireless technology called CDMA, while others like Cingular and T-Mobile use GSM.
If you're unfamiliar with some of the terminolgy used, you can check out Phonescoop.com and go to the glossary section to get a better understanding. Have fun with your W300i.Favorite Quote:
