Re: "How to" MP3 your Ringtones for the W580i

    Hi Dalton.

First off I think you are awesome for doing all of this for us un-computer savy people.

I understood and got all the way through the file altering... but my computer doesn't recognize my cell phone when it is in phone mode... so I am now lost... help?

    Thanks!

    Dalton,

I did EVERY step you listed and when I go to transfer the completed drm file. it says 'error: could not copy'

I tried a bunch of different files, and I made sure they were all below 60 KB ( I heard somewhere that they had to be...) but nothing works... I just get the smae error message

    What do i do?

    please help me

Re: "How to" MP3 your Ringtones for the W580i

OH MY GOD i figured out the EASIEST way. If nothing else works for you, here is what i did.
I downloaded a program called Audacity, and shortened the song. (I usually just take the corus of a song or whatever you like) and went to export this selection
i saved it as a WAV file, then hooked my phone up to my computer and dragged and dropped the WAV song file into my phone and BAM it worked!!!! i am so happy, after 4 hours of trying diferent things and nothing worked, 10 minutes before i was going to bed i just tried this one simple thing and it worked!!!! YAY

i done everything in the way you said but 2 things is that my pc suite wen i click on the phone in the bottom right hand corner it does'nt show file manager
so i was wondering if there is a certain type of pc suite...
and the second thing is that i got the file on to my phone and it shows up with all the other tones but the mp3 tone i put in has a key with a red line crossed over it
but the rest are just a key
    PLZZZ reply

or you can use a simple ID tag editor, such as Itunes (select "none")
Then you can just copy your mp3 over to the ringtone folder....

Re: "How to" MP3 your Ringtones for the W580i

I've followed your instructions on "How to" MP3 your Ringtones for the W580i" but i keep ending up at the same problem, same for my friend, you said to make a save point for the .dm file, i made mine document...../music/ but when i checked I don't see any .dm files, is that suppose ot happen? I do see a .dm file in a DRM folder that is automaticlly created, but if I try to move that under my memory card and phone memory folders, it says it can't be copied...D: help please, both me and my friend want to use our own ringtones T.T

    thanks for reading and helping

Its so easy to make ringtones for any "locked" phone..All you need is I-tunes
(make the ID tag=none), which is a free download. Also you will need to cut out the portion of the song you want, about 20 seconds.

Re: "How to" MP3 your Ringtones for the W580i

i have some problems regarding this part of you're instructions
"It will have a pop up saying you have transferred a music file, click yes to install it into the Music folder.
After that another pop up will come up asking you how to use it. In the list of options, choose "Ring tone" and you are done!"

however, it never asked my permission to transfer songs, and the songs automatically downloaded itself into my phone. It never asked me if i wanted to use it as a ringtone as well. Also, when it showed up [in my phone, in the memory part], the key symbol beside each song, had a red cross going through. So, i really dont know what went wrong. I used the older version of DRM to convert my songs. What DRm packager did you use though? The new one, or old one? I have a vista computer, so i tried installing the newer version of DRM, and its options did not include converting mp3 files, so i couldnt even convert my songs
