My w580i is not recognized anymore!?

It used to work fine just pop it in and drag the files on to it, now everytime i put it in i get a message saying usb device not recognized. I am running vista.
I dont know how to install the drives with vista.
Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried re-installing the Sony Ericsson program?

When you upgrade to Vista most of your files get wiped out, therefore your program won't exist.

Try installing the software the same way as you did with XP or whichever you used to have.
1) Put in the Sony Ericsson CD Rom
2) Follow the instructions

I dont think i got any programs with the phone. And I have only had vista on this pc. I didnt need any programs to connect to the phone before. It used to just show up as another drive. I have recently installed sony ericsson pc suite, but still no luck..

I'm not really sure of the full extent of the problem, but have you tried System Restore? So long as you can remember the vague date of which your phone started not to be recognised, just set it to revert back to that day. The OS should be able to track back around 3 months, so give it a go and it'll hopefully work. Good luck .

i wouldnt go as far as a system restore for this. at least not right away. i have vista too...have u made any windows updates to your computer lately? i know if u update a driver for your computer it can cause things to not function properly. if that was the case u can delete previous updates. and sometimes it can be the complete opposite, u may actually need to update ur computer and then just restart it.

Well try picking from one of these driver downloads for the W580i and see if you can get it working. If one dosn't work, try the next one and so fourth. You should be able to get it working again this way .

yeah.. i had the same problem.. what worked for me was cleaning the port on the phone, and on the usb cable -- the part that connects to the phone

i got a tissue and wiped the port... also i noticed some black stuff on the metal, so i got a needle and gently scrapped some of it off... it worked perfectly after that.. but if you're gonna scrape it with a needle, be gentle!!
