Are the w580i's compatible with most generic tape adapters? I really want to be able to listen to music in my car.

Also, some general reviews over the phone would be great. I'm planning on purchasing it soon, so I'd like to hear what other people have to say about it.

If you don't recommend the phone, do you know of any other walkman-type phones that are better than the w580i? I go through AT&T and am ready to upgrade my phone, so I'll only be paying $20 for the w580i. So in general, the less I have to spend, the better. :P

    Thanks in advance.

Re: w580i Question : Tape adapters?

The phone's are not directly compatible, but you will be able to use the 3.5 adaptor that comes with headphones (I'm not sure what headphones you get with it, but if it dosn't come with the adaptored ones, you can always buy one dirt cheap). You then simply seperate the headphones from the adaptor, and plug the tape adaptor port into it instead.

As for the review side of things, the phone has been quoted to have a problem with cracking keys - and commonly at that! Whether this has been rectified as of now, I do not know, but you may want to bear this in mind when purchasing the phone. In short, if you're a heavy texter or dialer, this phone is a no no for you. Hope this helps!

Re: w580i Question : Tape adapters?

Yeah, I had read a lot of reviews about texters saying that their keys broke. I'm not really into texting anymore, and only do it everyone once in a great while.
Like I said, I want to get this phone mostly for the music. I have an MP3/CD player but I don't have it installed in my new car yet, and rather than spending money to do that, I just wanted to see if the W580i was compatible with tape adapters since those are relatively cheep.

Anyway, the information you gave me was helpful. I'm glad someone replied. I was getting frustrated not being able to find any information about tape adapters and W580i's on Google. =/

Re: w580i Question : Tape adapters?

Well there's not really any offical information out there to prove it works, but the headphone adaptor will accept a signal from anything that has a 3.5 input, and since the tape adaptor uses a 3.5 jack to ensure its compatibility with most MP3 players and Ipods, I'm highly confident it'll work. There is just one problem I'd worry about in your case though; which is ensuring you have some place in your car to cradle the phone - after all, you don't want your phone dangling for its life from the tape player do you?

Ha, no worries about it just dangling there. I have a safe spot for the phone to rest while I'm driving about.
