Re: Help unlocking password on 580i

I have the same problem. I was troubleshooting a friend's phone and exchanged sim card and the prompt showed up. It's been a while and I forgot my #. Could you send me the instructions as well?

edit: I'm not familiar with how to post in this type of thread. Did I post in the wrong area? Also, the timestamp is wrong by 14 hours.

Re: Help unlocking password on 580i

Any chance I could get those instructions PM'd my way?

It's my friends W890i, and I've tried every other possible solution under the sun. I mean, what are the chances that she'd end up with the ONE phone that seemingly can't have it's phone lock code easily reset.

EDIT: Also, it might be worth you putting together a tutorial/guide or some such. I found this page through Google, no doubt the many others here did too. You might end up PMing folk until the end of time!

Re: Help unlocking password on 580i

Right, okay, seeing as this thread is for some reason not notifying me of new posts as of late and true to another posters suggestion that I am indeed endlessly sending these instructions to people (something that I did not expect), I have posted the instructions I have been messaging people, below. I have now locked this thread to prevent any more unecessary requests, but if anyone does have any questions regarding the tutorial, they are welcome to send me a private message

Please follow these instructions very carefully to reset your passcode, as this method can brick (kill) your phone permenantly if not done properly.

Please note that you are doing this at your own risk and I cannot be held responsible for any damage caused to your phone. If you have any doubts in carrying out the following proceedure, do NOT attempt this operation.

To do this, you will need the following:

    1) Your Sony Ericsson Handset

    2) A compatible data cable - the one supplied with the phone will do

    3) A Windows-based computer

    4) Version 3.1 of a piece of software called XS++ which can be found here

Now, what you will need to do is plug the data cable into your PC and run the program XS++. You will get a window pop up which will have a button labelled 'connect' on it. Press this button, hold 'C' on your phone and plug the data cable into your phone. The software will then proceed to read the information on the phone. Once the message 'ready for operation!' appears in the window, you are ready to unblock your phone.

You will need to click the small circle at the bottom of the window labelled 'GDFS'. This will bring up a new area with new options on it. You must then click the top button which reads 'Phone Lock'. Depending on your phone's software, it will either read your phone's lock code which you accidently set, or it will reset it to the default code '0000'. Click this button, and the operation should be carried out momentarily. Wait for the text window to read 'GDFS operation was sucessful' and then 'disconnected... Unplug the phone'.

Once these two messages have appeared, unplug the phone, and re-insert the battery. Start the phone up, and either enter the code it was able to read, or if it couldn't read it, enter '0000' and your phone should be functioning as normal.

    IMPORTANT

You may during this process recieve an error stating that it was not possible for the phone to be connected. Basically, the error you are recieving is usually caused because you do not have the "flashing drivers" installed for your phone.

To install them you need SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) downloaded and installed on your PC (Windows XP SP2 & Vista 32bit only).

Run the program, go through the steps and then connect your phone (when it says to).
Once it's connected, click the "Back to Start" button (do NOT update the phone, as the update will render the phone incompatible with XS++).

The drivers should then be installed, and your phone should now be able to be used with XS++ .

    INVALID CID

If, when trying to follow this tutorial, you recieve a message along the lines of "Invalid CID!", then this is unfortunately a dead end. This message occurs when the phone has been updated to the latest CID53 firmware - an update that was released by Sony Ericsson that blocks XS++ from being used (mainly because this program can be used to effectively modify the phone firmware - which I shall not be going into). As far as I am aware, there has been no fix for this error and the best advice I can give would be to send off your phone to Sony Ericsson to have it fixed. How they will treat the issue, I am unsure, but it's either that or accepting the fact that you now have a rather expensive paperweight!

If you encounter any other problems, don't be afraid to pass me a message .
