I hear a lot of talk about flashing a phone and modding and whatnot. I'm just curious as to what these terms mean, as I have an extra phone that I want to play around with a little bit. It's not working right..at all. I switched to the W760i from an LG Shine because the Shine got to where when I pushed buttons on it it wouldn't do anything, then it would randomly open things..like..it would open my picture folder and then the internet and then I'd hit END, which was the only button that would work, and it would get my back to the main screen. Anyhoo, long story short I am interested in playing around with it and dabbling in the world of cell phone modding.

Flashing is simply just a process wherein a mobile phone's firmware (or tha' program inside your phone's memory) is updated or re-programmed. Just like computers, some mobile phones which are sold have some minor software glitches. Things like your phone restarting, hanging, no signal, etc, are signs that there are problems with your phone's firmware.

As to modding your phone now, hmmmm , I can refer you to a website that allows you to use themes/skins for the menu in your phone. You can download the themes and bluetooth them to your phone or use a datacable and transfer the info to your phone .

The website is Zedge | Free ringtones, themes, wallpapers, videos and games for your cell phone - Free your phone! It's a SONY ERICSSON playground so to speak Hope my suggestion helped you

Flashing a phone can be useful if you want to just have a bit more freedom in customizing the layout and functions of your phone. It is not easy however and a slight wrong move could indeed 'brick' your handset (rendering it unuasable). If you want to flash yours for a praticular reason, I would suggest checking out some tutorials via Google. If you want a hand or have any questions regarding modding your phone, just drop me a line - I've done it to mine many a time
