I have a Sony Ericsson w810 and in the past few months the phone has stopped recognizing that it is plugged in to the power cable, thus it won't charge. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what can be done. I have had it the phone for 14 months.

Re: Power cable
I've had this problem with two of my Sony Ericsson phones and have sucessfully sorted the issue on each.
The first one (K750i) I think was a problem with the contacts inside the cable. To fix this, I just bent the cable in all angles until I found a point where it would start charging, then hold it in position with sticky tape. This was a bit of a stupid solution, but it worked .
The problem with my second one (K800i) was that the contacts on the charger were not touching the contacts on the phone (the latches on the charger presumably had become loose over time). To fix this, all I did was stick the end of a pencil into each of the latches and widen them a bit so that they held the cable nice and tight to the phone. This too, solved the problem
I can't guarantee it's one of these causes, but I'd suggest checking it just in case - you never knowLast edited by Zarphor92; 11-23-2008 at 06:38 PM.

Re: Power cable
I have read on other forums where people have used docking stations instead of the run of the mill charger. Funny thing is that I can charge my phone when it is connected via the USB cable and in file transfer mode. Downside to that is that I need my computer to charge it, and it isn't able to receive calls while in file transfer mode.

Re: Power cable
Yep, to me that sounds like there's something wrong with your phone's charging cable - not the phone itself. The best solution would be to either buy a new wall charger, or keep using your PC to charge your phone. If you can't stand the constant whirring of the fan all night (or whenever you usually charge it, then try using a USB hub if you have one - many of these require external power to work, which should in turn, power the cable to the phone.

I had same problems cause of no cover. I suggest just using an alcohol swab and cleaning the contacts or try a diff cable it may have a short.
