hi i know that mp3 ringtones are enabled on these phones cuz there are mp3 ringtones on the phone default. but when i put some on they dont work ive try every ringtone website and mp3 encoder i can think of. is this a firmware problem or do i have a bad phone.

Also the only file type i can get to work is midi and i can listen to mp3 and preview them just not make it a ringtune.. ive also flashed the phones and tryed updating the firmware and still nothing.

Re: Sony Ericsson w350 mp3 ringtones?

Your handset is probably branded by the network you're with and they've restricted your phone to use DRM encrypted MP3's only. DRM is a form of protection against music piracy - in which no one I know actually likes . It is used to prevent music from being sent over the internet and being played on computers other than the one that the music was first downloaded / ripped to. Phone operators also use it to ensure that you cannot use any MP3 ringtones on your phone unless they are encrypted with DRM. Your operator is likely to encrypt their ringtones with DRM. Do you see where this is going ?

There are three options you can take:

    1) Pay for and download a ringtone from your operator

    2) Encrypt the ringtone you want with DRM yourself (involves software)

    3) Get your handset debranded with generic firmware so that the phone no longer restricts your ringtones to DRM protected content only.

    Good luck!

It is rather unfortunate that ringtones need to have DRM.

Re: Sony Ericsson w350 mp3 ringtones?

    Hi Everyone,

I just happened to help my brother-in-law try to set up a few ringtones on his w350, where there was not any documentation within the phone manuals, of course, and so I happened to stumble upon this thread. I see that the last posting was to download the DRM packager from Sony Ericsson it should be fairly straight forward afterward. I, however, am unable to have the DRM packager create a file that is both protected and/or recognizable by the phone to use as a ringtone. I am sure there is a step that I missing in here. Any advise, or suggestions as to either the settings needed on both the software and/or phone, or where the disconnect might be?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for your time in advance for your time and assistance.

    Best Regards,
    -James-
