Using STAMINA Mode to Increase Battery Life
The Sony Xperia M features a so-called "STAMINA" mode that, when enabled, it automatically pauses Wi-Fi connections, data traffic and several other power consuming applications, whenever the screen is turned off.
Activating STAMINA Mode:
- While viewing the home screen, press the "Apps" button
- Tap "Settings" > "Power management"
- Press the button associated with "STAMINA" mode and tap "Activate"
Deactivating STAMINA Mode:
- From any of the home screens, tap "Apps"
- Tap "Settings" and access "Power management"
- Press the "STAMINA" mode button to disable the feature
Customizing STAMINA Mode:
- Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
- Tap "Settings" > "Power management"
- Tap "STAMINA mode" to access the settings menu
- Add and remove applications that are taken into account by STAMINA mode
- Tap "Done" when finished
Using Low Battery Mode
"Low Battery mode" is a second power saver feature on the Xperia M, allowing the device to automatically adjust various settings such as data traffic or screen brightness, whenever the battery reaches lower levels.
Enabling / Disabling Low Battery Mode:
- While on the home screen, drag the status bar down and tap the "Settings" button
- Tap "Power management"
- Drag the slider associated with "Low battery mode" to the right, to enable the feature
- To disable Low Battery mode, tap the "ON" button associated with it
Changing the Settings for Low Battery Mode:
- While viewing any of the home screens, press "Apps"
- Tap "Settings" and access "Power management"
- Tap "Low battery mode" to open the settings menu
- Adjust the settings as desired, then tap the "Back" key to apply the changes and exit the menu
Other Tips and Tricks to Increase Battery Life
Setting a Static Wallpaper:
Live wallpapers can be demanding in terms of battery life, so if you wish to get more out of your battery, you should use a static wallpaper. To change your wallpaper:
- From the home screen, tap and hold an empty area until the device vibrates
- Tap "Wallpapers"
- Select the desired option, aside from live wallpapers
- If necessary, select the desired photo, crop it and set it as your phone's home screen background
Decreasing the Screen Brightness:
For a smartphone, the screen is one of the most battery-demanding components. A such, you can preserve battery life by decreasing the screen brightness.
- While on the home screen, tap "Apps"
- Tap "Settings" > "Display"
- Tap "Brightness" and adjust the slider to a lower (but still comfortable) level
- Tap "OK" to confirm
Adjusting the Idle Time Before the Screen Turns Off:
- Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
- Tap "Settings" > "Display" > "Sleep"
- Select a lower value
Disabling Vibrate on Touch:
- While viewing the home screen, tap "Apps"
- Tap "Settings" > "Sound"
- Find the "Vibrate on touch" check box and uncheck it. This will prevent your phone to vibrate whenever you touch the navigation keys, and it will result in slightly higher battery life
Disabling Bluetooth When Not in Use:
- From the home screen, tap "Apps"
- Tap "Settings"
- Press the "On / Off" Bluetooth switch to disable the option
Disabling Wi-Fi When Not in Use:
- Tap the "Apps" icon while viewing the home screen
- Open "Settings"
- Drag the slider beside "Wi-Fi" to disable this feature
Disabling GPS When Not in Use:
GPS is a very power-hungry feature on every smartphone, so it's highly recommended that you keep this feature disabled whenever it's not in use. To quickly disable GPS:
- Tap the "Apps" icon located on the home screen
- Tap "Settings"
- Tap "Location services"
- Unmark the check box associated with "GPS satellites"
