The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact has been recently launched and has taken the Android world by storm, thanks to its high-end specifications wrapped up in a 4.3 inch shell. Enabling Battery Saving Mode:

  1. From any of the home screens, tap the "All apps" icon
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Select "Power management" under "Device"
  4. Tap the "STAMINA Mode" switch to enable the feature
  5. Lastly, tap the switches associated with "Low battery mode" and "Location-based Wi-Fi" and set the to "On"

Customizing the way Battery Saving Mode Works:

  1. From any of the home screens, tap the "Applications" icon
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Scroll down to "Device" and tap "Power management"
  4. Perform one of the following sets of steps:
    • To Edit how STAMINA Mode works:
      • Tap "STAMINA mode" and enable the feature
      • Tap "Activation"
      • Drag the "Battery level" slider and manually adjust the battery percentage at which the mode becomes active
      • Tap "OK"
      • Optionally, you can add or remove apps from the "Apps Active in Standby" list
    • To Edit Low Battery Mode:
      • Tap "Low battery mode" and enable the feature
      • Set the desired levels for "Screen brightness" and "Screen timeout"
      • Optionally, disable options such as "Mobile data" or "Auto-sync"

Lowering the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. From the home screen, tap the "Applications" icon
  2. Tap "Settings" and tap "Display" under "Device"
  3. Select "Brightness"
  4. To manually adjust the screen's brightness, first unmark the "Adapt to lighting conditions" check box
  5. Drag the brightness slider to a lower but still comfortable level
  6. Tap "OK"
  7. Next, tap "Sleep" and select a lower timeout value, such as "15 seconds"

Disabling Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot:

GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi can be real power hogs, so it's best to disable these features when not in use. To quickly do this:

  1. Drag the "Notification" bar down while viewing a home screen
  2. Tap the icons associated with "Wi-Fi", "Bluetooth" and "Location" to disable these features
  3. Next, tap "Settings" (located in the top-right corner)
  4. Scroll to "Wireless & Networks" and tap "More"
  5. Tap "Tethering and Mobile HotSpot" and clear the check box associated with "Mobile HotSpot"

Changing the Auto-Sync Settings:

  1. From the home screen, open the apps drawer
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Scroll down to "Accounts" and select the type of account that you wish to edit
  4. Select your account name if necessary
  5. Lastly, clear as many automatic sync check boxes associated with the features / apps in the list

Disabling Background Data:

  1. Tap the "Applications" icon and go to "Settings"
  2. Swipe to "Wireless & Networks" and tap "Data usage"
  3. Press the "Menu" icon located in the top-right corner (depicted as three dots)
  4. Mark the "Restrict background data" check box

Minimizing Use of 3rd Part Apps:

  1. Go to the "Settings" menu
  2. Swipe down to "Device" and tap "Apps"
  3. Slide the screen to access the "Downloaded" tab
  4. Tap the desired application and select either "Disable" or "Uninstall"
  5. Tap "OK" to confirm

Switching from 4G Connectivity to WCDMA:

  1. While viewing the home screen, tap the "Applications" icon
  2. Go to "Settings" and scroll down to "Wireless & Networks"
  3. Tap "More"
  4. Tap "Mobile networks" and select "Network Mode"
  5. Select "WCDMA"

Updating to the Most Recent Software Available:

NOTE: this trick works only if the manufacturer has released a new software update that deals with potential battery life issues. If no software update is available, then following these steps will have no effect.

  1. Tap the "Applications" icon located on the home screen and go to "Settings"
  2. Tap "About phone" under "System"
  3. Select "Software update"
  4. If a new software update is available, follow the self-explanatory steps to download and apply it
