Backup Data
Backing up Applications:
- While viewing the home screen, tap the "Applications" icon
- Go to "Settings"
- Tap "Backup & reset" under "Personal"
- Mark the check box associated with "Backup my data"
- Tap "Backup account" and choose the desired backup account. NOTE: if you need to add an account, tap "Add account" and follow any additional self-explanatory steps to complete the process
Backing up Contacts:
- While viewing the home screen, press the "Phone" icon
- Tap the "Contacts" icon located in the top-right corner
- Press the "Menu" icon located in the bottom-right corner (depicted as three dots)
- Tap "Back up contacts" and perform one of the following:
- To backup contacts to your SIM card:
- Tap "SIM card"
- Select the contacts that you wish to backup, or tap "Mark All"
- Tap "Back up"
- If necessary, select either "Add contacts" or "Replace all contacts" and tap "OK" to confirm
- To backup contacts to the SD card:
- Select "SD card"
- Tap "OK" to confirm
- To backup contacts to your SIM card:
Backing Up Media Files and Pictures Using the Smartphone:
- While viewing the home screen, tap "Applications"
- Scroll to and then select "Settings"
- Tap "Storage"
- Select "Transfer data to SD card"
Backing Up Media Files and Pictures Using a Computer:
- Use the USB cable to connect your smartphone to your computer
- When the Windows Explorer window pops-up, select "Browse files"
- Access the device's "Internal Storage" directory
- Browse for the media files that you wish to backup
- Copy the files from your smartphone's storage, and then navigate to the desired backup location on your computer
- Once the files have been copied, click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon located in the system tray
- Click "Safely Remove Mass Storage Device" > "OK"
- You can now disconnect your device
Restoring Data
Restoring Applications:
- While on the home screen, tap the "Applications" icon
- Go to "Settings", and tap "Backup & reset" under "Personal"
- Tap "Backup account" and select the desired backup account
- Next, mark the "Automatic restore" check box
Restoring Contacts:
- While viewing the home screen, tap the "Phone" icon
- Go to the "Contacts" section
- Tap the "Menu" icon located in the lower-right area of the screen
- Select "Import contacts" and follow one of the options below:
- To restore from the SIM card: select each individual entry that you wish to import, or tap "Import all"
- To restore from the SD card: Tap "SD card", choose the desired vCard file and tap "OK"
Restoring Media Files and Pictures from the Computer:
- Establish a connection between your Xperia and your PC via USB
- In the auto-run pop-up window, select "Browse files"
- Go to the device's "Internal storage"
- Open a new Windows Explorer window and browse for the backed up files located on your computer
- Copy the files and paste them onto your phone's internal storage
- When the transfer is complete, click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon. It's located in the system tray
- Next, click "Safely Remove Mass Storage Device" > "OK"
- It's now safe to disconnect your Xperia from your PC
