Using iTunes:

NOTE: Using iTunes you can sync the contacts stored on your iPhone with your Google account. Once that's done, you can re-sync the contacts from the account with the Sony smartphone. This method requires access to a computer with iTunes installed and Internet

  1. Launch iTunes on your computer
  2. Establish a USB connection between your iPhone and computer
  3. After it connects, the iPhone will appear in iTunes
  4. Go to the phone's summary page and access the "Info" tab
  5. Mark the check box next to "Sync Contacts With"
  6. Select "Google Contacts" from the drop-down menu
  7. Type in your Google account's log in credentials. Alternatively, if you've already added a Google account before, you can tap "Configure" and select one from the list
  8. Click "Apply" to begin the sync
  9. Register the same Google account on the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
  10. Allow the account to sync contacts with your Android phone

Using iCloud:

NOTE: Assuming that you have used the iCloud backup service on your iPhone before, then chances are that your contacts should already be backed up on your iCloud account. Using a computer with access to the Internet, you can sign in to your iCloud account and export the contacts for Android use

  1. Launch the Internet browser on your computer
  2. Visit https://www.icloud.com/ and sign in with your iCloud account
  3. Click "Contacts" and select the contacts you wish to export
  4. Click the cog wheel icon
  5. Select "Export vCard" and wait for the vCard file to be downloaded on the computer
  6. After the file is downloaded, import it to "Google Contacts". NOTE: alternatively you can skip this step and perform the next one instead:
  7. Connect the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact to your computer and transfer the downloaded VCF file to the phone's storage / SD. Next, launch the "Contacts" application, tap "Menu" > "Import contacts" > "SD card". Select the file you wish to import and tap "OK"

Using "My Contacts Backup":

NOTE: The methods detailed above require the user to have access to a computer hooked up to the Internet, but there are other ways to transfer your contacts from your iPhone even though you might not have access to a PC. This is where 3rd party apps such as "My Contacts Backup" come in handy. This is an iOS app that can back up your contacts in the form of a VCF file, which can then be sent to the Sony Xperia via email

  1. Go to the App Store and install "My Contacts Backup" on the iPhone
  2. Open the app and tap "Backup"
  3. After the backup file has been created, tap "Email" to compose a new email
  4. Attach the file to the email and send it to your Gmail address
  5. On the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, open the email and download the attached file
  6. Import the file via the "Contacts" application

Using "Send Anywhere":

NOTE: Another third party app that can be used for contact transfer cross-platform is "Send Anywhere"

  1. Visit the Google Play Store and install "Send Anywhere" on the Xperia smartphone
  2. On the iPhone, install the same app via the App Store
  3. Once installed, launch the application on both smartphones
  4. On the iPhone, tap "Send" > "Contacts"
  5. Select the contacts you wish to share and then tap "Send"
  6. Lastly, select a contact transfer method. You can tap "Receive" on the Xperia Z3 Compact and enter the randomly generated transfer code from the iPhone. Alternatively, tap "Generate QR Code" on the iPhone and scan the code with the Compact's camera to commence the transfer
