NOTE: If your phone doesn’t work as intended then you might be able to fix it by factory resetting it. WARNING! Factory resetting your phone will result in the deletion of all personal data stored on the phone’s internal memory, including ringtones, photos, downloaded content, contacts etc. Additionally, all settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Before a factory reset you can visit this thread to learn how you can back up and restore data on the Xperia Z5.

Master Reset via Settings:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Access “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Back up & reset
  4. Clear the check box associated with “Automatic restore
  5. Under “Personal data” tap “Factory data reset
  6. Tap “Reset phone
  7. In case the phone is protected by a PIN, password, or pattern, enter it and tap “Continue
  8. Tap “Erase everything

Reset the Phone via Dialer:

NOTE: You can also try resetting the Xperia Z5 using the default dialer. To try this method:

  1. Open the “Phone” app
  2. Tap the “Dialer” icon
  3. Enter *#*#7378423#*#*
  4. From the pop-up menu that should appear on the screen, tap “Customization Settings
  5. Tap “Reset customization
  6. At the “data will be cleared and factory data reset will perform” pop-up, tap “Reset customization and reboot
  7. Wait for your phone to reset all data and restart

Reinstall the OS via PC Companion:

  1. Launch the Internet browser on the computer
  2. Head down to https://support.sonymobile.com/globa.../pc-companion/
  3. Download and install PC Companion on your computer
  4. Open “PC Companion” once installed
  5. In the app, click “Start” under “Support Zone
  6. Click “Start” under “Phone / Tablet Software Update
  7. Establish a USB connection between the Xperia Z5 and computer
  8. In PC Companion, click “repair my phone / tablet
  9. Follow the on-screen steps to reinstall the OS

Reinstall the OS via Sony Bridge (Mac):

  1. Open the Internet browser on the Mac
  2. Visit https://support.sonymobile.com/globa...ridge-for-mac/
  3. Install Sony Bridge for Mac
  4. Connect the Z5 to your computer via USB
  5. Launch Sony Bridge and click “Xperia” > “Repair Xperia device
  6. Click “Continue” and follow the on-screen instructions
