Back Up App Data:
- Tap “apps” on the home screen
- Open “Settings”
- Tap “Backup & reset” under “Personal”
- If necessary, tap “Backup account” and select, or sign in with the account you want to use for data backup
Restore App Data:
- Open “Settings”
- Scroll to “personal” and tap “Backup & reset”
- Tap “Backup account” and select the account containing the desired backup
- Tap to enable “Automatic restore”
Enable Automatic Backup:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch “Backup & restore”
- Enable “Automatic backup”
- To select a backup frequency, location, and to select the type of data you want your phone to automatically back up, tap “Automatic backup” again
Back Up Data Manually:
- Tap “Apps” and open “Backup & restore”
- Tap “Manual backup” and choose a backup location
- Select the type of data you wish to back up, like “Contacts”, “Conversations” and so on
- Tap “Backup” > “Finish”
Restore Data Manually:
- Open “Backup & restore”
- Tap “Restore data” and select the location of the backup file
- Choose the type of data you want to restore
- Tap “Restore data” > “Finish”
Back Up Data using PC Companion (PC) or Sony Bridge (Mac):
- Install the “Sony Bridge” or “PC Companion” app on the Mac or Windows PC
- Connect the Xperia Z5 Compact to your computer via USB
- Open PC Companion or Bridge
- Click “Start” > “Backup”, and follow the on-screen instructions to back up data
Restore Data using PC Companion (PC) or Sony Bridge (Mac):
- Ensure that PC Companion or Sony Bridge is installed on your PC or Mac
- Establish a USB connection between the Xperia Z5 Compact and computer
- Open PC Companion or Sony Bridge
- In the application, click “Start” and select a backup
- Click “Restore” and follow the on-screen steps to complete the process
Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:
- Connect the Sony device to your PC
- Open an Explorer window on the computer
- Navigate to the phone storage and locate the desired media files
- Copy the files, and transfer them in the desired backup location on the computer
- Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage and safely disconnect the phone from the USB connector
Restore Media Files from a Windows PC:
- Connect the Xperia to your PC
- Launch Explorer and locate the media files backed up on the PC
- Copy the files and paste them on your phone storage, preferably in the folder(s) from which they originate
- Once the transfer is complete, eject the storage from the system tray
- Safely disconnect the device from the USB
