Turn On Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings
  3. Tap “Battery” under “Device
  4. Tap “Menu
  5. Turn on “Battery saver

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling the phone’s unused connectivity options, including Wi-Fi, GPS, Hotspot, and Bluetooth, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Location” and “Bluetooth” tiles to disable these options
  3. For more Location (GPS) settings, first open “Settings” and tap “Location
  4. Tap “Mode” and turn on “Battery Saving
  5. To turn off hotspot, go back to “Settings
  6. Next tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks
  7. Tap “Tethering & Portable Hotspot
  8. Tap the Hotspot switch to disable the option

Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:

NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Under “Wireless & Networks”, tap “More
  3. Tap “Mobile Networks” > “Preferred network type
  4. Enable “2G

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Drag the “Brightness” slider towards the left to decrease brightness
  3. For more options open “Settings
  4. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Display
  5. Turn on or disable “Adaptive brightness
  6. For timeout options, tap “Sleep” and select a lower value

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party apps can perform regular background processes, and thus they can potentially affect battery life even when not actively in use. By removing or disabling unused third party apps, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Go to “Settings
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps
  3. Ensure “All Apps” is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
  4. Select the desired app and tap “Force Stop” to disable the app
  5. Or, tap “Uninstall” to remove the app from the phone

NOTE: Another method of uninstalling an app is by opening the apps drawer and dragging > dropping the desired app’s shortcut over the “Uninstall” area at the top.

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing the sync settings of your apps / accounts to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Go to “Settings” and scroll to “Personal
  3. Tap “Accounts” and select the desired account
  4. Disable or change the desired sync settings

Keep the OS updated:

NOTE: Software updates can include improvements to battery life, and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone
  3. Go to “System updates” and check if a new update is available
  4. If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply it. NOTE: the updating process will require at least one reboot
