The lead in to the ESPN story on this was that the Lakers needed a big man (Chris Mihm) and had to give up GP to get it...it's a great trade from my pov (as a Celtics fan).

yeah, considering Kobe's pretty much all the Lakers have left... they'll have to pick up a big name soon..
shouldn't be too hard with all the salary they've dumped..weeeeeeeeeee

They had four pretty big names last year, and still didn't win it all.

if they can get one or two high quality guys that won't make their locker room a living hell... it'll be a good year for them...
not that I like the Lakers, I'd rather see them do poorly, they've been at the top long enoughweeeeeeeeeee

I think that he is probably going to retire too. Like really, who wants to go to the damn celtics. He is old as hell so he should go ahead and retire

I see this topic is dead but I wasn't registered then so I will throw my 2 cents in. Well, I guess Payton didn't retire and is playing for my Celtics. He is playing well and is teaching our young guys so this was a positive trade. He probably won't be back next year but I will enjoy his game this year and see how he will continue to play.
