At my work, we have a lost-and-found policy, where if an item is left for 4 weeks unclaimed, then anyone can have it. Well, I got my hands on the Sanyo PCS 5500 phone, and I was wondering a few things.

-Can I just take this into a Sprint store and have this registered under my name, or will they take it and give it back to whoever's on the SIM card?

-If they will do that, is there any way to work around this?

-Is there any way to make sure the phone is not in service? I mean, I've tried calling its number with a regular phone and it says the number is not in service. Also, whenever I try to dial any number with the cell phone, it gives me some roaming message that I can't seem to work.

I would really like this phone is all!

    Any help would be appreciated.

If this is a Sprint phone, there is no SIM.
Does the front of the phone say Sprint?
If this is a Sprint phone, it is still registered to the owner of the phone number, the subscriber to the service. If they registered the phone as lost or stolen, it is a paperweight.
Go to a Sprint store or call Sprint customer service, they will tell you real quick what your options are.
And remember, it is only good on the Sprint network. You will have to have a Sprint account to activate the phone.
Perhaps the owner has already replaced the phone and will sell it to you cheap and tell Sprint to activate it.
    Good luck.
