Make sure you unlock it
Your choice is understandable, but make sure that your phone would work on Nextel.
It is not always easy to unlock phones.

First off by switching to Nextel you will end up right back where you started from, how you ask? well Sprint and Nextel are merging.....

yeah that s what i heard but sprint does not have the free incoming call thing , one more turn off with nextel i live in stamford and sometimed their signal is weak and i never had that problem with sprint NEVER even when i m in Florida or Boston it s PERFECTO so if they get with nextel maybe their signal will be better ..

You could have called Sprint and told them your problem, i'm sure their retention dept wouldhave given you first incoming call for free.
Good luck with Nextel.

i think you should just switch to Nextel....the phones are better and the reception is wayy better than sprint, but since they are merging, it might not make a huge difference...but nextel's plan are definitey better than sprint.

Yeah, so if you cancel sprint you don't have to pay your etf, but you can't get nextel until you pay off sprint. and also sprint has the free incomming plans as well. and if you switch to nextel you'd have to buy a nextel phone seeing as nextel is iDEN and sprint is CDMA. so, uh, have fun with that. (cough: your screwing yourself)
