ok i don't know if anyone ever figured this out before me but i just tried it when i ran out of things to try and it worked, so maybe it will work for you!
my sprint pcs vision lg pm-225 would not play any of the mp3 ringtones i sent to it. i browsed through the forums and someone said i had to first convert to wav and then convert to this purevoice thing.
so i tried that and the files sounded like crap after being converted twice. frustrated, i gave up initially and found (or made) some cool ringtones out of midis.
TODAY i downloaded an mp3 ringtone that was 96kbps and decided to give it a whirl, didn't work. then the light bulb blinked on and i erased .mp3 from the end of the ringtone and replaced it with .qcp (the purevoice file extension).
and now all of a sudden my phone plays all the mp3 ringers it wouldnt play before! all i had to do was change the extension and trick my phone into playing it, none of that awful conversion process was necessary.

hey brad, you should maybe change the subject so that it hints more at what you're going to say. you might get more hits/reads and more rep. wink.

well it depends on what kind of operating system you have i guess? i usually just erase the file extension and change it, no problems. but if you do have trouble, i also found lots of freeware on download.com that can rename file extensions for you BUT browse their site at your own risk! because some of the software that is free contains adware and spyware and you have to be careful which one you choose. read the user reviews, choose software that has good reviews and lots of downloads, be careful and make sure you know what you are doing
here's a link to the search results: http://www.download.com/sort/3120-20...+renamer&ca=20
hope this helps.

actually its not a stupid question at all, but this is an old post that i should have deleted because it's been covered several times before (you can find a lot of things in the CPF Search).
Most people around here use a program called DBPowerAmp to convert their mp3 files to a WAV so it can be edited to 30 seconds, then they convert it back to mp3 with the same program. I do things the same way basically but I use a conversion program i found elsewhere.
there is a sticky post in the ringtones forum that can detail the process a little better, this process basically applies to all ringtones, not just for motorola. http://www.cellphoneforums.net/t167022.html
i would mention however, that while this post recommends 64kbps for ringtones, you really need to determine for yourself because if file size is an issue, some ringtones sound decent as low as 24kbps. i use 32-48kbps for most of mine.
hope this helps

There's a link to your pm's near the top right of the page, but when you get one you also get a popup to alert you. Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it quick and you'll be a regular in no time!
