I haven't done it yet, but I am going to buy a new phone + stick with Sprint.

I have decided to stick with Sprint because:

-I can hear better on their service vs Verizon or other
-They carry the A900 which is better than the RAZ V3M (still not a slick bar phone but whatever)
-A900 is the smallest, has the biggest internal memory, best display, handles JAVA and has a headset jack (RAZR has a mem slot but w/verizon you are limited in what you can do with files etc).

We'll see if I go through with it. I want to call Sprint and demand a loyalty discount since I've been with them for like what, 8 years now? Do I ask for a free phone or a better service plan?

Thanks to all here for your advice and help. Great resource!

    Re: I'm sticking with Sprint

Okay, I'm going to say all of this as a CSR myself, I'm just being honest, not a *****. Basically, 8 years to a cell phone company isn't really that long for a customer to be with them. Don't demand anything, that'll only make the representative not want to help you out with anything. You will absolutly not get a free A900, I doubt that highly. You can't expect the nicer phones to be given free to you, maybe if you're really nice, they MIGHT. They can't just drop the price of a service plan due to your 8 years with them. They are set prices, and there isn't a way to change them in the system. I know my mom gets something lame like 5-10% discount with sprint since she's had them, for like 8+ years.

It's all about being friendly and not demanding things. When people get like that to representatives the reps don't want to, and won't give you anything. Customers don't realize how much what the rep does for the customer honestly depends on whether the rep personally feels the customer deserves something, most the time they don't HAVE to do anything if they don't want to.

if you use the high end functions or your phone roams a lot, you will find the a900 battery has a unusually short life and you will be recharging often. I love my phone but the battery sucks. Just giving you a heads up.

Actually, they will. I recently got my uncle, cousin and two of my aunts to call up Sprint CS and complain about their phones because they all needed new ones. They weren't even ready for upgrades, and each one of them received an A900 within the next two days. One of my aunts has had Sprint for about 10 years, but my uncle only had his and my other aunt's phones for maybe a year. I can understand my aunt who has had them for about 10 years get it, but my uncle who has only had them for around a year! What's up with that?

Anyways, what I'm saying is that Sprint could(not saying they will, but could) give you the A900 free, but it depends on the rep you talk to and the way you got about it. My aunt that had been with them for 10 years threatened to leave Sprint, so they gave her and my cousin two A900's for free. I'm not recommending this, just showing you an example of what could happen.

Thanks for your feedback - I wasn't going to "demand" anything from Sprint - I would have been nice when I called up - just saying I am thinking of switching to Verizon what can they do for me? Thanks for all the input here - I expect to call up Sprint, see what they say, if they don't give me a good deal on a plan or the phone then I'll most likely just walk into a store and buy it. Thank you all -

Glad to hear you've made your decision! Mandie, I don't know about Cingular but Sprint does offer loyalty discounts to customers who ask for one after 4 years of more of service. The trick is you have to ASK for it, and it helps to tell them you know someone else who already gets the discount because you can say, "Oh only 15%? But my friend who's been with you for 5 years said she gets 25%!" I've talked to several people who get this discount.

All you really have to do is "hint" in a nice way that you are considering changing cellphone companies. They respond to this immediately and will give a nice discount.
