That depends on your definition of 'free'. If you have text included in your plan, then you can sms AIM messages back and forth, 'free'. Or, if you have the Vision package included in your plan, you can use the AIM client that's probably built into your phone 'free'. If you don't pay for text or data, then it will definitely cost you money to send messages, either 10c/text or 2c/kb. Check your plan to see what's included, hope this answers your question.
