A co-worker found a sprint phone and gave it to me, Itried to activate it and was told it was attached to someones account. Is there any way to clear the phone so I can activate it under my account?

Re: New to the forum question
Sure. contact the owner of the phone and say "hey, found your phone and I want to use it for myself instead of giving it back to you, will you call and deactivate the esn for me please".

They've prob deactivated it by now if they're smart. You'll know when you try to make an outgoing call from it, it won't work.
Not sure how sprint monitors lost/stolen phones. If they see that it was activated on a new account after on another account it was reported lost and deactivated.

You gotta do the right thing, I'm sure some poor person is missing their phone.

Yup, it's not finders-keepers like most people think it is. Ownership stays until the item is sold or given away.
Phone Sprint. See who owns the phone. Have them have that person contact you. Maybe they'll give you a reward; maybe they'll just let you have the phone.
If they want their phone back, enjoy your new good karma for returning it and get a used Sprint phone off eBay to play with.

I am not sure if Sprint phone uses SIM cards or not.
But if it does, you have to get a new SIM card. If not, you can not use it at all. Once it get reported as lost or stolen, that's it. The phone is only good for parts now.

Sprint is a CDMA carrier, so no SIMs.

Re: Found Sprint phone given to me!
I did actually purchase a Samsung Rant from a guy at work. No funny business here. He did not like Sprints service so he purchased a pre-paid phone somewhere else. When I tried to activate it, I was told it was still active under another user. I asked my coworker to deactivate it. When he tried, he told me Sprint would not do it because he was still under contract. So, I have a perfectly good phone thats not in use.

ewww that sucks the only way to do get it activated is to find out who had the phone and get them to take it off the account and hope the phone isnt reported stolen
