How can I get Sprint to release my old phone number?

I was gone for 3 1/2 months my sprint bill was not paid. When I came back I contacted Sprint was willing to pay my bill in full, until sprint informed me that my acount had been closed and I could not get my old phone number back. It's been 6 months now anyone have any idea how long they will hold on to my old number? Will they ever release it? I have had the same number for over 10 years. Sprint Sucks Help please is there a Way??

No they haven't I have called it i get a recording " please check the number you are dialing message 701 switch 7" So I have been trying to activate the number with Air Voice Express because they will give me my choice of phone numbers if avaible.

If available, thats your problem. If Sprint dosen't release it, you aint goinna get it.

Virgin Mobile is an MVNO operating on the Sprint network and issues Sprint phone numbers.

This probably won't work, but try calling Virgin Mobile's pre-paid activation line at 1-888-322-1122 and ask them if your old number is available to be assigned to a Virgin Mobile pre-paid phone. If they say yes, then buy a cheap Virgin pre-paid phone at Walmart or Target and activate it with your old number. After 30 days you could then port the number to any pre-paid or contract phone with any carrier other than Sprint/Nextel/Boost. Just keep in mind that if they ask for your home zip code, make sure you give them one that is consistent with the area code of your old phone number.
