Sprint executive David Owens has confirmed that the carrier will ban tethering on smart devices next year as a part of its future smart device development plans. The ban will be placed on smart devices activated on the carrier’s current lineup of Everything plans.
Other plans include Android OS updates for the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment, Android device with a built-in MiFi style router, BlackBerry Tour with Wi-Fi and other Wi-Fi enabled BlackBerry devices, testing of Windows Mobile 6.5 updates for the HTC Touch Pro2 and other Windows devices “plan for early 2010″ and WiMax phones.
Personally I already have an aircard but it still is not very comforting to think they can just disconnect you at a whim

Re: Sprint to Ban Tethering on Smartphones
That sucks if this is actually happens, I own an CDMA Hero and although I dont use tethering now I dont want it disabled either. I hope this device can be rooted at some point, maybe that would bypass a block on tethering....No?

Re: Sprint to Ban Tethering on Smartphones
To allow your phone to act as a router. It basically takes the internet from your phone and allows you to access the internet from it wirelessly to your laptop.
Just think of your phone as a wifi hotspot. ;0)

Heh.
Too bad my phone is rooted. Otherwise, they might be able to castrate my phone. *oh snap*.

Re: Sprint to Ban Tethering on Smartphones
Since I'm still using the mogul and sprint has not replaced it with a touchpro/tp2 even with all the exchanges I've done, I'm grandfathered in right? It's not listed, so hopefully they'll forget about it.
I have not received anything from sprint stating that they are doing this.

Re: Sprint to Ban Tethering on Smartphones
If you currently have a tethering plan your safe, if you have the tethering hacked take note Sprint can see where you surf and when you cause a red flag then you be notified and will need to stop.
On new activations tethering plans are not offered, they want you to get an aircard.
