Rumor/Rant calls sent directly to voice mail

Both my current LG Rumor2 (2 weeks old) and previous Samsung Rant have problems with alerting me to incoming calls and texts. The phone is not set in airplane mode. 85% of the time, the phone does not ring on incoming calls but sends the caller directly to my voice mail. 80% of the time I don't receive text messages when they're sent, I get them between 2-16 hours later! What is the deal and is it fixable??? Has Sprint lost its connectivity reliability in Albuquerque, NM?

I've already sent the Samsung Rant (less than a year old) back to Samsung for repair on the above problem (and for not being able to maintain a full charge with a new battery, overheating). They sent it back saying they couldn't find anything wrong with it.

I think there is either something inherently wrong with these particular phone models or Sprint's service has turned to junk in my area. I've been with Sprint for 10 years. Since their merger w/Nextel, I've had nothing but problems with their customer service and their phones. My contract is up April 22. I'm counting the days until I can say buh-bye to Sprint and hello to Verizon.
