Help needed in choosing a provider

Hi, I've spent some time reading the forum to help me make a decision on a provider but the more I read, the more unsure I become. I live in NYC and I've always used AT&T as a provider. However, I've recently grown to dislike AT&T and want to change providers. I'm also planning on upgrading to a smart phone as well so I've decided to go with either Sprint or Verizon.

A friend of mine has always used Sprint and never mentioned about any complaints. Many forum posts says otherwise. Could someone help by offering some advice as to which provider I should go for in NYC? I guess which provider's benefits outweigh their deficit? Thanks for your time.

I visited NYC in 2006 for business, I was on Sprint at that time and had no issues, one of the companiesI rep for is in Rockville Centre and they use VERIzon and are very happy with the service.
