ok i see that some of these support cdma and gsm. the two phones i have had in mind is the motorola razr hd and motorola razr m. hd gets 24 hours of talk time and 4.5 inch hd screen. m gets 20 hours of talk time 4.3 inch non hd.i know i have to buy an unlocked phone. the phones are affordable the razr m goes for as low as $100 unlocked and the razr hd goes for as low as $150 unlocked. i have heard that the gsm feature will not work in the usa just in other countries. i want to hook one of these to my straight talk plan i am a broke college student that works at walmart so i dont have the money for a verizion plan. i have a straight talk sim card that i bought when straight talk started byod. i want to use one of these but i am worried of gsm does not work in usa and am not sure weather i can do this.

    Re: motorola byod

Who told you that GSM won't work in the US? Verizon is the only major carrier that is not GSM.

Edit: nvm, I see what you mean. both phones have GSM antennas but they are disabled to work on other carriers since they are Verizon phones. If you haven't bought a phone yet, then why are you limited to Verizon devices? I would just get a GSM phone and be done with it.

btw, there are ways around getting the GSM antenna to work on US carriers, but it requires a lot of fiddling with the software/firmware.

If Straight Talk will activate a Verizon (CDMA) phone in your area then you have nothing to worry about. The won't do it in my area though - I would call and check before you buy a phone.

If not, you could try finding an XT910 that has been unlocked, like this: Amazon.com: Motorola XT910 DROID RAZR Unlocked GSM Smartphone with 8 MP Camera, Android OS, Wi-Fi, and GPS - Unlocked Phone - No Warranty - White: Cell Phones & Accessories
