    Hi,

I'm a new gsm cell phone user with a question. Once I buy a sim card does it expire and I have to buy a new one? Or can I just keep buying time for the sim card I have?

    Thanks,

    Doug

Yeah you've gotten 44 views at the time of this post. I think your answer may be in a different tread though.

Your SIM card always stays the same. It's your key to the network.

Are you on a prepaid account Doug?
A sim card is a postage stamp size card that is in a compartment inside of the handset behind the battery that stores all of your related data such as when you store phonebook information you are given the option to store it to the sim card or phone if store to the phone cannot be transfered so the sim card is not something that will expire as it has your information on it, when you change handsets whether through an upgrade the information is transfered when you remove the sim card your current handset to the new one.

hm..... let's see if i can answer this: pictures CAN be saved to either... most of the time.. it's saved by default to ur phone (at least mine is - i have a samsung e715)... uh.. ringtones.. in ur phone.. um.. and sim card... well... ur sim card doesn't expire... in fact, it's basically your "number" in the network.. for instance, u can switch phones (that is unlocked... or locked to the service provider ur using) and use the same sim card and ull still have the same number! make sure u save all ur phone numbers into ur sim card if u wanna switch phones or ure gonna have to retype in all the numbers! and if ure using prepaid.. well, ur service expires until u put more minutes! uh... iono what else to say.......

Sim Cards stay on your account and while they do hold contact/phonebook info(not including e-mail addresses) they do not store pictures, ringtones, etc. If you cancel your account (at T-Mobile at least) the sim card is good for reactivation within 60 days. If, 60 days elapse, the sim card is deleted from teh system and cannot be used again. Likewise, if a sim card is deactiavted, it cannot be used on another account until it has been released by T-Mobile.
